In the traditional form of acupuncture practice, the physician sits beside the patient and stimulates the needles to produce and enhance the therapeutic effects. Nowadays, the modern situation of clinics does not allow such a long physician-patient relationship. Electrical stimulation of points is a proper alternative method. Electrical stimulators are available which can produce several modes of stimulation with a very low electrical voltage which is usually 1-6 V (6 V is the power of 4 usual batteries and half the voltage which a car battery produces). The physician chooses the suitable mode, frequency and power to induce the best therapeutic effect. Using electropads which adhere to the skin can produce the effect without using needles. It is considerable for the patients who are afraid of needles and prefer to receive the treatment with the minimum number of needles inserted.
